watermelon toes

remember the mother's day polish bonaza? well, it was time to try the crackle polish that hubs got me. i like it so much, i've been walking around with my head down bumping into things. i even bumped heads with hubs in the store. we both laughed. he's amused and happy that i'm taking so much joy in a present that he picked out. always having too much fun with my toes.

this is a two step process. this is a picture of the undercoat.

this is a picture of the finished product. the 2nd step is merely a second coat of paint, using a special dark green polish that shrinks and cracks as it dries.

mother's day!

the family took me out on Saturday to have a juicy jalepeno burger and some sweet tater tots. they also took me to walmart where i had to wander around so they could shop for me (in secret).

sunday morning before church, they presented me with 2 fancy chocolate bars (cayenne & orange - my 2 favorites) and some awesome nail polish.

my son picked purple. my daughter, blue and green. hubs got me some glitter stuff (4th of July is coming up) and some new crackle stuff that looks like watermelon rind. cool stuff. and they all know how much i love to paint my toes.

what a blessed mother (and wife) i really am.

power tools and me

today, i used a circular saw...and a jigsaw...and a power drill (okay i've used this one before), but the point is i used power tools and my husband wasn't even home.   this is pretty incredible for me.  really!!

been dying to better organize this storage area in our breezeway and i did it all by myself...ok i had elves (children) picking up screws as i dropped them the dozen or so times each it takes to actually get them drilled into the shelves, but mostly by myself.

this area is the "tween" station on the way to everything else. on the way to the garage or the freezer room where other things belong and people (everyone but me) think that if there's a clean spot on these shelves that they don't have to actually take it all the way back to where it belongs. this would take another 45 seconds of their precious time and possibly another 50 steps or so. i know...it's a lot to ask.

this photo was taken after everyone has been piling their junk on it all winter (actually i think i've cleaned it once since winter).

these were taken after i got the shelf installed. i chose not to clean or move anything until i was finished.

and tah dah....these were taken after i cleaned and place things on the new shelf that i built. oh did i mention...i BUILT A SHELF!!!

now, you might notice my stones over on the left two pictures back. i just thought i'd share what those are actually setting in. the photos below are of how i constructed a stone holder out of ordinary ANTIQUE items laying about the house.

those are canning jar rings attached with zip ties to keep the one side elevated to prevent the round stones from rolling onto the floor.

new Bible cover

duct tape wins again. i have a 20+ year old Bible which was a gift from my daddy. it's a good quality Bible, but alas, the cover has begun to show some serious wear...so i went to wally world and got me some cheetah duct tape and repaired my Bible cover. thought you might like to see.

outside front cover

i put a few pieces of tape (3 layers thick) under the final cover to make a pattern.

you can see the tape wrapped around the inside edges.

i re-glued the inside cover pages over the tape edges.

happy green day

green has been my favorite color since i was about 16 and i truly enjoy keeping my toes decorated. my daughter has followed--dare i say it?--in my footsteps. she loves to decorate her toes as well. in anticipation of st. patrick's day, hubs picked out a lovely shade of green nail polish to give to our daughter for her birthday. she was kind enough to lend it to me for st. patty's day insurance. *wink*

my husband bought me shoes?

my husband outdid himself. he came home from work this morning at which point, i tackled him and thanked him for the bear. he then whips out a bag containing a jumbo Reeses peanut butter heart AND...are you ready for this? he bought me a pair of shoes and they actually fit!!!!

new shoes

my dear friend sent me a pair of barely used shoes. my first look didn't prove exciting, as they are big & clunky looking, but after wearing them around the house for 3 days, i'm totally in love with my new shoes. i love my dear friend for sending them, and for me, finding a pair of shoes that i like and that fit is no small task. i tried to find them online in case i ever wanted to replace them with a new pair, but alas, no find for Stone Mesa shoes.

Aren't they Photobucket?! Wait, I don't care what you think. Photobucket

I love them! Photobucket

one day long, long ago, there lived a woman who did not whine, nag or b***h...

But this was a long time ago...and it was just one day.

Often I get the feeling that my husband is the only one in the house who gets good ideas.

feeling lonely & disconnected

*sigh*

I miss my husband. Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Today, I feel disconnected. Most everyone has experienced the effects of staying out too late, drinking too much or the withdrawal effects associated with taking medications.

This mental state feels somewhat similar to these but without the associated physical reprucussions.

Something, I fear, is amiss in the cosmos.

When we are unwilling to draw clear moral lines between free societies and fear societies, when we are unwilling to call the former good and the latter evil, we will not be able to advance the cause of peace because peace cannot be disconnected from freedom.

digit in danger

I tried to slice my finger off this morning and was somewhat unsuccessful. Too bad, I was, "so" looking forward to some extra flavor in my breakfast.

I broke a glass in the garbage disposal, except, I didn't know it was glass until the disposal said, "crash, bang, sputter, bam" and then I turned it off and decided to investigate. Good call, I must say. Hubby has kevlar gloves, so he put one on and cleaned out the mess for me, while I was bleeding to death in the bathroom.

Well, the good news is that the bleeding has stopped and the bad news...well, I'm not sure if I already shared this...but on Christmas day, I decided to trip up the stairs in our breezeway, and an even better decision: I decided to use my right, ring finger to catch my fall. According to a tap, a poke, and a look-see from the doctor, I tore a ligament in my finger. So now I have two injured fingers on the same hand (the one I favor of course). I think it's God trying to tell me, I need to strengthen my left hand.
disclaimer:  caution must be taken when reading my blog.  i'm a new creature and the Lord continues to mold and shape me through his will.  older entries may seem to contradict the newer ones.  there's a pretty good chance that they do for two reasons.  first, because of my nature, as i strive for perfection, i will continue to fall short of the mark and should therefore be thankful for his grace and should seek his (and your) forgiveness for having been so foolish in the past.   second, i continue to grow in him; and as changes are made, i have made attempts to change my blog to reflect those changes. in this event, please refer to #1.   if you're interested in perfection, my blog isn't the place to be.  pick up a king james bible (yup, i'm one of THOSE people) and read his PERFECT word.
