the greatest woman who ever lived

If I asked you who was the greatest woman who ever lived, you might answer "Joan of Arc" or "Rosa Parks" or someone who went down in history for some remarkable deed worthy of mention by a people or a nation, but if you were to ask me, I would have to tell you that the greatest woman who ever lived was my grandmother. She sacrificed and worked her whole life to provide for her children and her grandchildren to make sure they were fed, clothed and loved with every part of her being. She was the most remarkable woman I ever met. So full of love, courage and wisdom. She always had the answer for a question, a recipe for an empty belly, a remedy for a wound or illness or a hug for hungry soul. If I ever aspire to be half the woman she was, I will consider my life a success.

My grandma passed away last Friday. She was 90 years old, born July 12, 1917. She lived through the depression, and several wars, was married for almost 70 years to the same man and raised 3 children and 2 grandchildren. She was loved and she blessed many. She will be missed, but I hope to see her again some day in paradise.

Marc Fencil is a senior at The Ohio University. He is majoring in Political Science, Criminology, and Spanish. He won't be graduating this spring because his side job is currently keeping him very busy. Which side job is this?

Marc Fencil is also a Lance Corporal in the United States Marines and is one of the few & proud currently serving in Iraq.

Upon learning his fellow students in Athens, Ohio decided to stage a "Die-In" at College Gate, Marc decided to join them in spirit by writing a letter to the editor of the The Post Online.

"It's a shame that I'm here in Iraq with the Marines right now and not back at Ohio University completing my senior year and joining in blissful ignorance with the enlightened, war-seasoned protesters who participated in the recent "die-in" at College Gate. It would appear that all the action is back home, but why don't we make sure? That's right, this is an open invitation for you to cut your hair, take a shower, get in shape and come on over! If Michael Moore can shave and lose enough weight to fit into a pair of camouflage utilities, then he can come too!

Make sure you all say your goodbyes to your loved ones though, because you won't be seeing them for at least the next nine months. You need to get here quick because I don't want you to miss a thing. You missed last month's discovery of a basement full of suicide vests from the former regime (I'm sure Saddam's henchmen just wore them because they were trendy though). You weren't here for the opening of a brand new school we built either. You might also notice women exercising their new freedom of walking to the market unaccompanied by their husbands.

There is a man here, we just call him al-Zarqawi, but we think he'd be delighted to sit down and give you some advice on how you can further disrespect the victims of Sept. 11 and the 1,600 of America's bravest who have laid down their lives for a safer world. Of course he'll still call you "infidel" but since you already agree that there is no real evil in the world, I see no reason for you to be afraid. Besides, didn't you say that radical Islam is a religion of peace and tolerance?

I'm warning you though -it's not going to be all fun and games over here. You might have bad dreams for the next several nights after you zip up the body bag over a friend's disfigured face. I know you think that nothing, even a world free of terror for one's children, is worth dying for, but bear with me here. We're going to live in conditions you've never dreamt about. You should get here soon though, because the temperatures are going to be over 130 degrees very soon and we will be carrying full combat loads (we're still going to work though). When it's all over, I promise you can go back to your coffee houses and preach about social justice and peace while you continue to live outside of reality.

If you decide to decline my offer, then at least you should sleep well tonight knowing that men wearing black facemasks and carrying AK-47s yelling "Allahu Akbar" over here are proud of you and are forever indebted to you for advancing their cause of terror. While you ponder this, I'll get back to the real "die-in" over here. I don't mind."

"...Where the walls of his cell came together at the corner, Karl noticed a shadow just beneath the ceiling where on brick was missing. The sparrows saw it as a place to build their nest.

Karl's human logic could not understand why the sparrows would forsake the fragrant green boughs of a pine-tree home for the rank gloom of this prison cell. But such a miracle was beyond human logic. When Karl reasoned with his heart, he came to the conclusion that these tiny feathered creatures were sent to him as a gift. The sparrows did not belong to him. No. They were free to come and go as they pleased. They belonged to the Lord who cared for all creatures big and small, and God had loaned them to Karl to keep him company. How kind, how thoughtful, God was, Karl concluded. God had known about the missing brick. He had provided the bread. He had sent the sparrows and planted the desire in their hearts to build their home in the very walls that imprisoned Karl.

Twig by string by stem, the sparrows labored over their nest. As they twittered to each other, Karl's heart entered into their conversation. He understood the concerns of parenthood and marriage. Of building a safe place in which to bring up youngsters. All these concerns were acted out in miniature drama in the nitch above Karl's head. Lady Sparrow scolded and the male pouted. He tossed his head and she obeyed...but not without protest. Together they lined the nest with downy feathers, creating a soft place for their little ones through their own sacrifice.

Day by day Karl offered them the best morsels of his bread. In return, they sometimes brought him gifts. One day the leaf of an elm tree. The next a faintly fragrant pine needle, which he pressed between his fingers to inhale the scent. Twice, Lady Sparrow dropped the petals of a wild flower. By holding the fragile yellow fragment in his hand, Karl could imagine a whole filed of yellow flowers sloping down toward the banks of a broad river.

They brought him pieces of the world, Little bits of beauty from which he could rebuild the memories of things he had most enjoyed with his own family: Picnics by the River Spree. A hike through the fragrant forests of Bavaria. Late-night talks with Helen about their children. Their future. Their lives. Family...

The memories of long-ago things did not make Karl melancholy,. Instead, he found comfort in replaying his life with Helen and Jamie and Lori. He had no regrets. Life had been good. Every day had been brushed with the colors of loving. Even the most ordinary routines now seemed somehow sacred and blessed, a holy sacrament.

Karl looked up at the nest. It was barely visible even though the knew where to look. If his jailers ever came into the cell, they would not see the little family high in the wall. He was grateful for this. The male had gone foraging this morning. Lady Sparrow was nestled in the downy feathers. A miracle was happening today, Karl knew. There would be eggs in the nest by the time her mate returned. This fact gave the cell the aura of a holy place. Karl bowed his head and worshiped the Lord of men and sparrows..."

California 'Mom,' 'Dad' ban garners international scorn
World Congress of Families condemns promotion of 'polymorphous perversion'

An international organization promoting families says California families have no choice but to abandon the public school system after Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed a new "anti-discrimination" bill into law, effectively making terms like "mom" and dad" obsolete.

As WND has reported, some family advocates in California already had come to the same conclusion as that reached now by the World Congress of Families.

World Congress of Families Global Coordinator Allan Carlson said the measure, SB 777, is "a blatant attack on the natural family orchestrated by the alternative-lifestyles lobby."

The exodus call had been issued just one day earlier by Randy Thomasson, president of Campaign for Children and Families. "We're calling upon every California parent to pull their child out of California's public school system," he told WND.

"The so-called 'public schools' are no longer a safe emotional environment for children. Under the new law, schoolchildren as young as kindergarten will be sexually indoctrinated and introduced to homosexuality, bisexuality, and transsexuality, over the protests of parents, teachers and even school districts," he said.

The law at issue went through the California legislature as SB 777, and now bans in school texts and activities any discriminatory bias against those who have chosen alternative sexual lifestyles, Meredith Turney, legislative liaison for Capitol Resource Institute, said.

The World Congress noted the law prohibits "instruction" or "activity" that is perceived to "promote a discriminatory bias" against "gender," including cross-dressing and sex-change operations as well as "so-called sexual orientation."

"It will prohibit anything that suggests that the natural family – a man and a woman, married, with children – is normal or typical," said Carlson. "Thus, under this latest advance toward a Brave New World of polymorphous perversion, California textbooks will no longer be able to use words like 'mother and father' and 'husband and wife,' because they suggest that heterosexuality is the norm – even though that is manifestly the case, even in California."

The organization's statement called it "unbelievable" that teachers and students who oppose same-sex marriage and suggest homosexuality isn't innate, or disapprove of cross-dressing and sex-change operations, could be disciplined as "harassers," and students may use the restrooms designated for the gender with which they identify.

"California parents who don't want to see their children subjected to gender indoctrination will now have no alternative but to withdraw from the public education system – which they will be required to fund, nonetheless," Carlson said.

Carlson co-authored with Paul Mero "The Natural Family: A Manifesto," and the World Congress is in the forefront of the international pro-family movement today. Its most recent congress was in Warsaw in May, and drew delegates from 62 nations.

While SB 777 provides protections for those promoting alternative lifestyle choices, there are no similar protections for students with traditional or conservative lifestyles and beliefs. Offenders will face the wrath of the state Department of Education, up to and including lawsuits.

"SB 777 will result in reverse discrimination against students with religious and traditional family values. These students have lost their voice as the direct result of Gov. Schwarzenegger's unbelievable decision. The terms 'mom and dad' or 'husband and wife' could promote discrimination against homosexuals if a same-sex couple is not also featured," said Turney.

"Parents want the assurance that when their children go to school they will learn the fundamentals of reading, writing and arithmetic – not social indoctrination regarding alternative sexual lifestyles. Now that SB 777 is law, schools will in fact become indoctrination centers for sexual experimentation," she said.

Karen England, chief of CRI, told WND that the law is not a list of banned words, including "mom" and "dad." But she said the requirement is that the law bans discriminatory bias and the effect will be to ban such terminology.

"Having 'mom' and 'dad' promotes a discriminatory bias. You have to either get rid of 'mom' and 'dad' or include everything when talking about [parental issues]," she said. "They [promoters of sexual alternative lifestyles] do consider that discriminatory."

Her organization immediately filed with the state a plan to take the issue to the state's voters in a referendum as early as 2008. Yesterday, the institute issued a list of advisories because officials have been "overwhelmed" by those who are outraged by the state's actions.

"By filing the SB 777 referendum with the attorney general, CRFI seeks to bring SB 777 before the people of California for vote," the advisory said. "The vast majority of Californians are shocked when they learn of SB 777's purpose. We believe that if it is brought before the people, it will be overturned."

England's organization said SB 777, by Sen. Sheila Kuehl, D-Santa Monica, "is the most blatant and egregious assault on traditional family values that CRI has witnessed in our 20 years of serving families in the capitol … SB 777 actually advances a radical sexual agenda on children as young as five years old."

"The vague language of this bill could be interpreted to mean that instruction that only features a mom and dad or traditional family would be 'promoting a discriminatory bias' against homosexual couples. It would promote 'heterosexism' to only show male and female couples, without equal time for homosexual, transsexual and transgender 'families,'" she said.

She said while supporters of the activist plan argue those conclusions are absurd, the organization actually "is merely publicizing policies that have already been implemented in Los Angeles Unified School District regarding transgender students."

England noted that the district website confirms if a male perceives himself as a female, "he must be granted access to female locker rooms and restrooms. He must be allowed to participate in female sports activities.

"If the student wishes to keep his sexual status from his parents, the teachers and administration must refer to the masculine pronoun (him/he) when talking to his parents and use the feminine pronoun (she/her) at school," the Capitol Resource analysis concluded.

"This shocking policy treats parents as the enemy of the transgender student…" the analysis said.

Thomasson had posted on his website examples of situations he said he expects to see develop:

• "Please turn to Chapter 10, entitled Famous Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender people. History tells us that great Americans such as Walt Whitman and Abraham Lincoln were gay and First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt was lesbian. It's likely that even prominent biblical personas were gay, such as King David of Israel and the Apostle Paul. Until this year, the sexual identities of these and other historical figures have been denied by discriminatory textbooks that reflected adversely on LGBT people by ignoring their existence."
• "Children, our new picture book has arrived. This is a fantastic story called Daddy's Wedding. It teaches us that no relationship is bad. See the two men dressed in tuxedos, like they're at a wedding? Daddy's Wedding tells us that two men can love each other and even get married…"

Ray Moore, a spokesman for Exodus Mandate, which advocates Christians give up on public schools and either school their children at home or send them to Christian schools, agreed with Thomasson, and went further.

"This really is a call to conservative and Christian pro-family groups to give up this absurd idea of public school reform," he told WND. "It can't be done. The longer they talk about saving public schools, the longer they prolong this agony, when they could be setting up new schools."

He said such plans to indoctrinate children in sexual alternatives is not a surprise at all. "The pagans are simply obeying their god," he said.

He also warned that the rest of the nation could feel the impact of the decision, because California is known as a trend-setter in educational practice and policy.

"California always has been on the cutting edge of trends, sometimes good and sometimes bad," Moore said. "What happens in California sometimes can spread nationwide.

"I do know textbook publishers blow with the wind," Thomasson added, "whether they blow from Texas or California, because those are the biggest states. That's how they sell books."

He said textbook editors now have a new agenda to satisfy if they want to sell their products in California. "We could see those [new] books within a year or two."

As WND reported, a board member for the homosexual advocacy group Equality California verbally attacked and threatened CRI for its opposition to the bill earlier.

The board member sent an e-mail and video to CRI threatening the group would be buried if it continued efforts opposing the homosexual advocacy.

"The shocking hate mail we received shows that those behind this legislation do not promote true tolerance," said England. "Only politically correct speech will be tolerated. Those with religious or traditional moral beliefs will not be allowed to express their opinions in public schools."

She also cited an informational document published by the Gay-Straight Alliance Network and the Transgender Law Center that already has outlined what it believes to be nondiscriminatory treatment in the school system.

"If you want to use a restroom that matches your gender identity … you should be allowed to do so," it advises. "Whenever students are divided up into boys and girls, you should be allowed to join the group or participate in the program that matches your gender identity as much as possible."

Further, the groups advise, "If you change your name to one that better matches your gender identity, a school needs to use that name to refer to you." The advocacy group also warns schools against bringing parents into any such discussion with students.

WND has documented a number of earlier cases in which educators, including leaders in California, have taken it upon themselves to promote a homosexual lifestyle to children under their charge.

WND reported California Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell, under whose supervision hundreds of thousands of children are being educated, has used his state position and taxpayer-funded stationery to praise a "gay" pride event used in the past to expose children to sexually explicit activities.

That drew vehement objections from several educators, including Priscilla Schreiber, the president of the Grossmont Unified High School District governing board.

"I am outraged that a person in this high-ranking elected position would advocate an event where diversity is not just being celebrated but where pornography and indecent exposure is being perpetrated on the young and innocent children of our communities," she said.

Lost a Child

A friend of mine, lost her dear sweet 2 year old girl on the 13th. She was accidentally shot, by a family member. It's so painful for all involved and children's services aren't making things any easier on the grieving parents.

If you feel so inclined, you might say a prayer for these people. They could really use it.

They still have another child 2 months old.

Norton GoBack Review

If you're thinking about putting a new product on your computer called Norton GoBack, I would urge you to reconsider. I've read some documentation on the web that would suggest that this product will save your system when it crashes; however, I just went through an ordeal this weekend that included a friend's computer, Norton GoBack and several hours of stress and agony.

My friend (we'll call him "Ralph") recently put Norton System Works (which included a nice bonus called Norton GoBack) on his computer. After some time having this on his computer, he began to experience slow downs, lockups and general loss of resources. Hubby and I and one more friend, (we'll call him "Fonzie", cuz he's COOL ) all volunteered to help him fix it.

Hubby took a look at it and found out that Ralph's computer had almost 50 processes running in the background (Task Manager) and all but 7 of them were associated with Norton System Works. After some assessment, Ralph decided to uninstall Norton from his computer. He tried to uninstall through Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel and was unable to do so, we thought due to all of the processes running in the background. So, we decided to restart the computer in Safe Mode to shut down everything running in the background. Ah, success (we thought). We were able to uninstall only 2 components, and there were yet 3 more that would not be uninstalled. So we did some Googling, and found a blog who had posted a method to manually uninstall this big monster from the PC. We deleted all the folders from Program Files, then proceeded to clean out the keys in the Registry.

Keep in mind, this was not the first time Fonzie and I had done similar processes to our own computers for other reasons, similar to this (programs that were rather difficult to remove due to damaged parts, etc).

After about 3 hours at it, time to reboot. The computer would NOT REBOOT. It got stuck in a loop at the Safe Mode Boot Screen. We were unable to load to previous known working spot, or in safe mode, or boot normally, etc.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK.

So, after mulling it over for a bit, Fonzie and I suggested that we bring Ralph's computer back to my place where we could hook it up as a slave to my PC, to retrieve his files (hindsight - should have backed these up to start with ). This was something Fonzie and I had also previously done successfully due to a crashed system. We're thinking "no sweat". WRONG AGAIN.

We hooked the slave up to my PC and low and behold, we opened File Explorer and the drive wasn't there. "Bad connection," you're thinking...we didn't plug it in, right?. WRONG again. We checked the Device Manager, and the drive was being recognized, but it was grayed and all change options were disabled. WHY? WHY? WHY?

So, then we're thinking, use the install disk to repair Windows, except our friend Ralph, has Windows XP Media Center Edition. The master operating system disk does not allow a non-destructive repair. It will only reformat over the top of everything, systematically, wiping out any and all saved and important data. So, next idea, we'll use a plain XP disk (Fonzie had one for his PC) to repair it. This disk was also unable to recognize the hard drive. It labeled it as Operating System "Unknown". AAAAACK!

Keep in mind we started this little escapade at about 3pm at Ralph's house. We are now at my house and approaching the wee hours of morning all ragged and almost out of ideas. So, we finally decide to take an extra blank hard drive I had on hand and put it in Ralph's computer. We loaded the Media Center op system onto this hard drive in hopes of finding another idea and direction to take. We finally decided that GoBack was the reason for all of the chaos. Evidently, GoBack is designed to hide your hard drive from any software based on the idea that if a virus can't see the drive, it cannot infect it. However, it also makes it impossible to do anything else with it either. Finally after some tinkering, Fonzie and I were maxed and went to bed.

Based on this new discovery, hubby and Ralph decided to get GoBack and put it on the test Blank Drive now loaded in Ralph's computer. They wiped out before they got it done. Ralph went home. Next morning, we get started again and hubby and Ralph got this program reloaded. We then plugged the broken drive back into the new drive as a slave and low and behold - it was now ABLE to read it, because we now had a drive with GoBack that could recognize the hidden drive.

SUCCESS - FOR REAL THIS TIME. We dragged all of Ralph's files to an external hard drive for safe keeping. Then we unplugged the new drive and replaced Ralph's broken drive into the tower. Then we reformatted and reloaded the op system without the Norton System Works. Then we dragged the files back to Ralph's computer from the external hard drive and all is well.

Time elapsed from beginning to fix: 34 1/2 hours.

I share this in hopes to help someone else save their precious files. We saved 40 GIG worth of personal files, photographs, videos and college papers. After doing some searching on the web, I found reviews on Norton GoBack where several people were disappointed because they went through the same process, but were not nearly as blessed as we, and lost everything on their computers.

Now if you already have Norton System Works and/or Norton GoBack on your computer and you are experiencing some troubles and wish to uninstall, I recommend the following steps.

1. BACK UP YOUR FILES to an external hard drive, floppy disks or another computer.

2. Attempt to uninstall if you wish, but we don't see this as being a successful venture. If you'd like more opinions on this, check CNET and Amazon for more user reviews on this product.

3. If your uninstall is successful, then you're one ahead of us. Good for you.

If not, then at this point, if you have saved your files - you can fdisk, or reformat or reinstall the op system the best way you know how. Then you can replace your files and you're done.

4. If you have already tried the uninstall and you DID NOT SAVE YOUR FILES, all is not lost yet.

Get another hard drive that nobody is using. Replace your broken drive with this hard drive and load your op system.

Then plug the broken drive into this PC as a slave and install Norton System Works (including GoBack).

At this point, you should be able to retrieve your files.

If you've followed all of these steps and are unable to fix your problem and retrieve your files, you may have to give up or hire a pro.
